Now that I’ve had a chance to review all of the materials from ICFF 2009, here are a few pieces that I was particularly impressed with from  Blu Dot,

Ever the darling of the design community, Blu Dot has always maintained a particular playfulness to their designs and honesty.  If you’ve not seen a squirrel assemble their Real Good Chair then you’re missing out.

Limited Edition Real Good Chair, Copper

Blu Dot has given their most popular chair a facelift in this copper version.  A limited edition of 100 have been produced so act fast.  The copper finish for this piece effectively distinguishes it from its progenitor and dare I say it gives the piece a vintage feel.

Blu dot Lighting

Of the pieces that Blu Dot has debuted in past seasons, there has always been one aspect that is the glaring exemption, the category of Lighting.  At the end of 2009 that will all change as Blu Dot will put into production its first lighting collection.

The pieces range from a lamp that ships flat packed to pieces that start off as bent and when you straighten them the light comes on, to pieces that feature rich woods and colorful cords (one of this year’s mainstays).

The new Flatout sleeper sofa.  This piece is particulary fun in that it features good clean lines but also a playful cross detail that sets it apart from other sleepers.  This detail brings to mind a similiar techinique employed by Hella Jongerius for her Polder Sofa for Vitra.

More information on the new collection will be posted as it is released.  Needless to say that all of the pieces are well thoughtout and very well executed.  I am looking forward to seeing these pieces right here at Boston’s very own Dot Spot (a Blu Dot store within a store) Vessel.
