As part of its continuing mission “to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force”, AIGA is bringing in one of the more forward thinking design firms in the area. AIGA’s getting N.E.R.V.O.U.S.
N.E.R.V.O.U.S. System‘s Jesse Louis-Rosenberg will present “Nervous System: New Technologies & Natural Phenomena” at two AIGA-sponsored events on Thursday. First up, from 12pm to 4pm, is a workshop at Continuum in West Newton, where Jesse will present “Spring & Things: An Introduction to Computational Design.”
Computation allows for new forms of exploration in art and design and the ability to create interactive systems that can act as new creative tools. This workshop will explore one class of such systems called particle systems which are used to model physical forces such as gravity, springs, or imaginary forces that you create. We will investigate how these models actually work, and go through some of the many ways they can be used to generate forms. Examples include bouncing balls, branching structures, tensile surfaces, and fluids. The workshop will use the Processing environment, a programming platform geared toward visual design. Taught by Jesse Louis-Rosenberg, co-founder of Nervous System. Please bring a laptop.
Registration runs from $50 for students to $80 for non-AIGA member.
